Poet, David Simmons, shares his affection for the Great Border City, and the surrounding area, in 'Carlisle in Haiku Form: First Impressions'. Seventeen illustrations accompany over a hundred handcrafted haiku which make up the collection providing a unique take on the city and its history. From Roman cricketers and Cracker Packers to Olympic hopefuls and Lady Gaga, there's a bespoke Carlisle haiku connection!

Having achieved this the group now meets as a lunch club known as ‘Chat & Chomp’, has art classes & goes on trips out.

During lockdown food has been delivered to people’s houses and contact maintained.

People are now called in for their vaccine by age group – but you may get called in sooner to ensure no vaccine is wasted.

 

There are three ways to get your covid vaccine:

1)  Your GP may invite you for the vaccine.

2)   You can book through the National Booking Service when your age group becomes eligible www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

3)  You may be called in to a hub to ensure all vaccine is used, and drop-ins may be offered.

Centres only show on the National Booking Service when there are slots available. If you can’t see the centre you are looking for, it is advisable to try again later. Slots are regularly added into the system. (You may be offered slots further afield - you may choose to travel or wait for more local slots to become available).

If you are booked in for a vaccine and then take up a more convenient appointment you MUST cancel your original appointment so other people can be offered it.

 

If you became eligible a while ago but haven’t had the jab, or you may have previously said no – don’t worry,  you are very welcome to book in.

 

After your vaccine it takes 2-3 weeks for your protection to develop, you should have your second vaccine to ensure you have maximum protection. You also need to keep following the hands, face and space guidance after you've had your vaccination. This is to make sure that while you have protection, you don’t pass covid on to other people. The government will let us know when we can start to relax how we follow the rules. For now we must do all we can to look after each other and help reduce the spread of covid.

First screened at Tullie House Museum's 'Black History Month' event in 2018, ‘It Happens In Carlisle’ is a short film which discusses Black Music and Black Artists and their connection to the Carlisle music scene. With contributions from local performers, musicians, venues and practitioners we learn a bit about the influence Black Music has had on the wider musical landscape. Local people also share their stories about gigs and events featuring Black musicians and performers including the famous 1967 gig at the ABC Lonsdale featuring Jimi Hendrix. There are some amazing stories about legendary artists who have played Carlisle, not only in the past but more recently, and will continue to visit Carlisle and play the music scene and influence bands and local musicians. In the words of Andy Bartlett, Manager at The Brickyard ‘It happens in Carlisle’.
