Spelling was not imperative in the 7th century, therefore, there are many variations in the spelling of Mobley.

This surname was first recorded in the 1806 Domesday Book as "Motburlege" and again in 1260 as "Modberleg." 

Descendants of the Mobley Clan migrated to Ireland. There, several generations lived and prospered prior to the first Mobleys migrating to the United States. Members of the Mobley Clan still live in Cheshire, England, throughout Ireland, and across the United States. 

When migrating to either the United States or Ireland, Moberley was shortened to Mobley. 

After talking with my in-laws, I learned that we already had a family tree on Ancestry.com.
