1 place where I feel a positive sense of place: Westgate

Features that make it special:

• The green wall makes Westgate special as it is uncommon for malls to adopt plants in their design, and the plants provide fresh air and scenic views which makes the place feel calming.

• The open-air design with wide walkways makes the place feel spacious and less crammed.

Interactions:

• Since JC, I have been gathering with my friends at Westgate for meals and chats.

• These interactions have made Westgate special to me as they provided moral support when I was struggling in my schooling years. Hence, Westgate has become a place that symbolises comfort and nostalgia for me.

I have a positive sense of place in the badminton court in my condo. This is because almost every other day I play badminton with my family there. I have won and lost many times but have enjoyed all the same. Some of its features are the very rough floor and grass patch surrounding it on 3 sides

the playground under my house brings me both positive and negative memories. It’s a normal playground with slides, ladders, etc. and a grass field beside it. It got reconstructed a few years later and it got boring.

I used to play here everytime i came back from kindergarten or primary school, i have also made many friends here. The positive memories are the games we played, like hide and seek or catching. Negative memories include when my hand got rope burn after playing monkey bars too much.

the study room it has a very conducive environment for studying as it is air conditioned and very quiet which allows me to study well and i normally study there as i can get a lot of work done quickly

Place:

The playgrounds near my house block

Feature:

It has many fun features to it, which makes the playground fun and entertaining. There are also many trees and vegetation around the area, which provides fresh air when we are around the playground

Interactions:

I would go there after (primary) school with friends or just meet up with friends during the holidays to play around the playground, sometimes we would play tag, sometimes just rest there and chat around

place: changi airport

features: movie theatres, canopy garden, swimming pool, jewel waterfall

interactions: i really like changi airport because every time i go there i associate it with the feeling of excitement and anticipation. this is because i love travelling and looking at the bright coloured carpeted flooring always makes me think back at the times i’ve travelled.

I feel a positive sense of place at the mamashop directly below my block.
The mamashop is very conveniently located and I used to always walk past it when I was in primary school. My family also relies heavily on the mamashop for food and other essentials.
I often interacted and chatted with the warm-hearted owners there during my primary school days.

One place that makes me feel a sense of place is actually at the playground under my grandparents house. Ever since I was a little kid, my cousin and I would go to that playground every holidays and just play for hours. Every time I walk pass the playground I would become very nostalgic

Place: Westgate rooftop and playground

Features: The rooftop has many plants and flowers. The rooftop also has many seating areas which allow me and my friends to sit together and talk.

Interactions: I always go to the rooftop with my friends and we would have conversations with each other. Sometimes we dance as well so it brings me a lot of comfort. The playground also gives me joy as we would hang out there after eating in the mall.

One place I feel a positive sense of place in is my primary school. There is a pond opposite the canteen which my friends and I always hang out around. We found it fun to just watch the fish in the pond and chat amongst ourselves. The greenery around the pond also made us feel very relaxed.

Place : Hillion Mall

Features : (Architecture) Escalators placed at one central place throughout the levels. (Architecture) Open space feature outside the mall that connects MRT underpass and LRT to hold events (pasar malam etc). (Nature) Outside of mall is lined with greenery. (facilities) the balloon stand - buying helium balloons with friends

Interact : Going to hillion with family to eat (casual/formal family gathering). Going home together with friends or meeting at hillion before going to other places (positive as usually we have fun outings)

feelings can be positive and negative because i've used this route since pri such days and it reminds me of people i'm close with and people that i've lost contact with

Place: The playground below my house.
Features: There is a stray cat that has been living around that area of a long time and there are a lot of open spaces to play sports or play games.
When i was young, i used to always go down and play with my childhood friends and we would always pet the cat. We would spend hours playing different games together. Nowadays, when i walk past the cat, it would always come to me and I would always pet it.

I feel a sense of place at Jem/Westgate. Westgate has an open air concept while Jem has a unique design with many floors and a mini playground at the top level. I go to these malls with my friends and we would always walk around to look at the shops, buy gifts from each other, eat and chat with each other after school

I feel a positive sense of place at Causeway Point as I have shared many pleasant interactions and memories that I cherish dearly with my family. I often go out almost every day to spend time with them such as by eating, going shopping etc. A feature of Causeway Point is the huge size and various number of shops there are.

I place in the neighbourhood where I feel a positive/negative sense of place is the nearby park connector. I stay beside the Pang Sua canal so during the holidays, my friends and I would go cycling at this canal and make many good memories but I did get injured there multiple times which made it a slightly negative sense of place. The features are that there is a big canal in on the side where I can see different types of animals like turtles, fishes and I once saw a monitor lizard as well as sea otters in there. The pathway was very well constructed where the ground was even which made it safer to cycle and run on.

Gas Station. The gas station used to be Caltex but now its Shell. I would stay there for minutes staring at cars. I also go to buy groceries when i was in primary school. But now there are other stores. ( NOT SPONSORED BY SHELL)

1 place in my neighbourhood where i feel a positive sense of place is the caged basketball court next to my HDB. This place is extremely special to me due to the rare caged-up nature of the court allowing for more efficient play. I regularly play together with my primary school friends ever since Primary 5 which are very important and special interactions to me.

Place: The minimart at the void deck

Features: There are a lot of products featured outside of the minimart and a canopy outside it.

Experiences: When I was still in primary school I would go there with my friends to get snacks or ice cream with friends. The aunty that works there is very friendly :)

I have a positive sense of place in my bed.

I have to share it with my sister so it’s abit cramped but the mattress and pillow is just right in terms of firmness. I never know if I am one move away from falling off the edge and it’s also abit dusty but it’s still useable and it’s where I rest and play with my phone before bed.

I talk to my sister occasionally and we check in occasionally with each other to see how we are doing. This is one of the only times my family members and I talk about how we are doing.

i have a positive sense of place in my room as i find it very cozy and comfortable and my bed is very soft so i feel very safe in my room. everytime my friend comes to my house we will just hang out in my room and i have a lot of fun with my friends which makes this place special to me

this garden way back at the school sec 2 block. It is quite isolated as not many ppl come there. I usually go there alone or with friends to play something. Something. There’s so much to do there. Hence its a positive sense of place

The school hall and ISH lvl 2 is the most memorable places in school since we have cca and friendly matches there.

I interacted with my friends during cca a lot there, over time I recognize them more, I learn about their play styles, and I familiarize more with my surroundings.

The school hall(negative) because I don't like listening to most presentations and my legs get cramped when I sit on the floor for too long. Also it's stuffy in there and it's especially bad on Monday's when we have to wear uniform

I would always head there for CCA (Show Choir) from 3.30pm to 6pm. It is a safe place during CCA where you can ask seniors questions, express feelings to seniors and friends and also just chat with CCA friends.

the place is my old sec 1 classroom in the sec 1 block.
it is negative because every time i walk past there or went there for orientation, i would remember when i was sec 1 and how time flies. it was also negative as my ogls would tell me horror stories of the sec 1 block toilets.

i have a positive sense of place in the school field. This is because almost every day in Secondary 2, I used to play football with my friends. I remember the torn nets of the goalpost as the ball kept getting g stuck there and I remember my underpumped rubber ball which literally stung on impact.

The back of the Sec 1 classrooms near the back gate is a place where I feel a negative and positive sense of place.

Since I go to that place almost every CCA session, I can always remember where everything is and I also get to interact with my CCA members and seniors. (Negative and positive)
