"She wants me to come every afternoon after school and saturdays and read to her out loud for two hours. Atticus, do I have to? Certainly. But she wants me to do it for a month. Then you'll do it for a month" (105). This evidence shows that Atticus is talking to his son, Jem, because Jem had done something bad to the roses in Mrs.Dubose's yard. Atticus is telling Jem that since he has done this he should pay for it. So his punishment is reading to Mrs.Dubose for two hours. This shows that Atticus does not let bad behavior slide and he makes sure that his kids make up their mistakes.

"You might hear some ugly talk about it at school, but do one thing for me if you will: you just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don't let 'em get to your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change..it's a good one, even if it does resist learning" (76). This piece of evidence shows Atticus giving her daughter Scout, fatherly advice about not fighting anymore. The kids are talking about Atticus and how he's a bad person for defending a colored person. Scout justs gets mad and starts fights because they're talking bad about her father. Atticus doesn't mind and would rather his daughter have moral courage.

No matter what anybody says to you ,don't let 'em get to your goat" (80).In this part of the book Atticus guides Scout away from fighting. Scout immediately wants to fight because of the things that are being said about Atticus. Scout is being very impulsive and Atticus is trying to guide her away from that.
