The mutated gene is passed down from one of the parents. Autosmal dominant disorders occur in one of the 22 nonsex chromosomes. A child with a parent who was this disorder has a 50% chance of inheriting the disorder as well. 

Huntington's Disease is an example of an autosmal dominant disorder that affects the nerve cells in the brain by breaking them down.
