         <description><![CDATA[<div>land becoming less fertile and unusable. Degraded land also adds to climate change because it holds less carbon than the natural land. The 3 main types of degrading land are soil degradation, soil erosion and ecosystem decline.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Soil Degradation:&nbsp;<br>- loss of fertility in the soil<br>- why: becoming compacted, becoming acidic &amp; farming&nbsp;<br><br>Soil Erosion:&nbsp;<br>- soil gradually being worn down&nbsp;<br>- why: nature, human activity, clearing trees, farming,&nbsp;<br><br>Ecosystem Decline:&nbsp;<br>- ecosystems becoming degraded<br>- why: loss of veg., alien plants &amp; animals, decline in the quality of the rivers<br>- can lead to desertification&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>pollutants are changing the composition of the atmosphere which is part of the reason the global temp. is rising.&nbsp;<br><br>Air Pollution:&nbsp;<br>- worst environmental risk&nbsp;<br>- increase in asthma and lung/heart disease&nbsp;<br>- lots of people die bc of polluted air&nbsp;<br>- slowly starting to improve&nbsp;<br><br>India: an air pollution hotspot:<br>- highest levels of air pollution<br>- lots of transportation = bad&nbsp;<br>-&nbsp; want cheap energy<br>- lots of people die<br><br>A good news story: the recovering ozone layer:&nbsp;<br>- 1970 - steady decline in of ozones over Antarctica&nbsp; &nbsp;<br>- banned the use of chemicals in that area&nbsp;<br>- started to heal </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Human activity has reduced the quality &amp; quantity of clean water. Humans use water for factories, homes and farms. There is a limited amount of water in the world and most of it is unusable due to pollution&nbsp;<br><br>Damming the rivers:&nbsp;<br>- 2/3 of rivers in the world are changed by dams<br>- dams disrupt the natural flow -&gt; flooding/areas not getting water&nbsp;<br><br>Pollutants in our water:&nbsp;<br>- the contamination of bodies of water&nbsp;<br>- because of human activity&nbsp;<br>- this results in; people loose usable water, water animals are dying &amp; can contribute to widespread food shortages&nbsp;<br><br>-&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
