A growing number of online discussions have speculated that changes in the immune system following receipt of COVID-19 vaccines could have contributed to the increased prevalence of HMPV. 

Some theories suggest that the immune response induced by mRNA vaccines may temporarily alter immune function, making individuals more susceptible to other respiratory viruses. 

In addition, experts from major health organizations emphasize that there is scientific evidence supporting a direct link between COVID-19 vaccines and HMPV recurrence.
