In 1520 Magellan set foot on Chilean soil, but it was Pedro de Valdivia who colonized.

The natives were not as advanced as the Spanish so the aforementioned had an obvious advantage.

When colonizing the lands to found cities (such as Valdivia and Santiago) there was indigenous resistance that even led to a war (The Arauco War).

When the Spanish took control, they built the cities to later focus on politics and the creation of councils and laws.

Colonial Chile in its beginnings was a very hostile place
