For the most part this module will be held indoors in the school gym. Some of the orienteering tasks will bring them outside and around the school grounds. As the teacher in an Adventure Education model, the role is a problem presenter rather than a problem solver. Students will work as a whole class to become responsible for their learning. The model for most activities will follow the experiential learning cycle.







Each week students will be engaging with activities for both orienteering and climbing. From week one of the scheme through to week 3 students will have climbing on either the bouldering wall or the top rope wall, and an orienteering element. The orienteering tasks in week 1-3 will be preparing them for week 4. Week 4 will be a full orienteering event. The event will be conducted using the app “iOrienteering”. The skills taught in both area will be transferable. 

Students will be active throughout the whole Unit of Work. Students will be actively doing a task or reflecting on a task they have just completed. The climbing wall provides students with a choice of different problems they can attempt. Students can reflect on what colour problem they just completed/failed at, and decide on what problem they should do next (harder/ easier). Students will be relying on feedback from their peers. Communication between pairs/ teams/ individuals will have a big emphasis.  

St Angela’s College have a Bouldering wall and a Top Rope wall. For health and Safety reasons, while students are climbing on the Top Rope wall, I will be accompanied by another qualified PE teacher. Team Teaching- I will lead the class and they will be used to assist me. This is so the students get a fuller experience of climbing. During the warm up particular emphasis will be placed on mobility. The mobility of joints will impact on their climbing.
