The very next day she got a two-liter bottle of coke out of the fridge, the bag of pool chlorine from the garage, and her toy airplane from her room and headed outside. She poured the coke into a bucket and dumped some chlorine into a cup that she had attached to the bottom of the plane. As she stood there with her chemical reaction ready, she called for her parents to come outside. Looking into the sky and speaking into her imaginary radio, she stated the weather conditions of that afternoon, “It is a clear and hot day here in Guatemala and Flight 264 is ready for take-off.” Before her parents could stop her, she flipped the chlorine filled cup onto the top of the bucket and watched as the plane flew fifty-five feet into the air and came crashing down through her neighbor’s window. Embarrassed about the result, she turned to her parents who aimlessly starred into the sky with their mouths wide open. She was the oldest child of her parent’s, so she was responsible for taking care of her siblings when needed. When Daniela reached high school, she had a passion for engineering and wrestling. With her motivation to be great at everything she enjoyed, she would be found constantly perfecting her craft of wrestling and engineering skills. Throughout high school, she quickly became one of the school’s top wrestlers and already had several records after her first two years. Although Daniela was already an accomplished athlete after her first two years, her legacy took off during her junior year. She had an undefeated season and made it to the state championship which she easily won. A week after her state championship, she was also named an All-American wrestler and was offered a scholarship to Gannon University. However, after a fairytale junior season, she suffered a broken leg halfway through her senior year and all of the hopes and dreams of her and her fans fell apart. Later on, her college wrestling career did not disappoint. She was a back-to-back NCAA champion her sophomore and junior year. On top of that, she again won the title of All American both her sophomore and junior year. Daniela’s first four years were basic engineering classes in order for her to obtain a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Near the end of her senior year, she was informed that not only will she be graduating, but she was also top five in her graduating class. She then decided to end her wrestling career and go back to school for four more years to obtain a doctorate degree. Along with studying electrical engineering during those years, she also continued her study of aeronautics and found a way to incorporate electrical engineering into it. After eight long and tedious years, Daniela finally earned a doctorate degree in electrical engineering and had an astonishing resume with her background and internships. Shortly following her graduation, she accepted a job at NASA as an aircraft engineer and spent several years hard wiring and fixing spaceships. Years of repairs and wiring helped her climb the ranks and eventually earned her a promotion to become an engineering astronaut. While continuing to do her current job, she spent ten months in training so she could perform her first spacewalk. At the age of twenty-eight, Daniela was finally cleared for a mission to the International Space Station to repair an electrical malfunction. Her first trip was a success and following that mission she was called upon four more times to do repair mission on the I.S.S. After twelve years with NASA and five different trips into space, she was financially and spiritually ready to retire. Her mother added to the conversation the story of six-year-old Daniela shooting a toy spaceship into the neighbor’s window. She finally admitted that from that moment on she knew Daniela would grow up to become a very successful and significant human. As she was telling the story, it was being replayed in the back of her head, but instead of a toy plane going fifty-five feet then into a window, she pictured her daughter going two hundred fifty-four miles into outer space.
