Authenticity
"Beneatha-“Mama, what are you doing?” Mama-“Fixing my plant so it won’t get hurt none on the way” Beneatha-"Mama, you going to take that to the new house” Mama-“Un huh“ Beneatha “That raggedy looking old thing” Mama-"It expresses me” page- 121.
This quote shows that Mama is Authenticity because Mama doesn't worry about what other races say about African Americans because she knows what she is and whats she is worth. She doesn't care what people think about her, if it means something to her then she wont care what you think about it. Another example is when Lindner didn't want Mama and her family so he was bribing them not to move in their area of town.

Perseverance
"Walter what you ain’t never understood is that I ain’t got nothing, don’t own nothing, ain’t never really wanted nothing that wasn’t for you. There ain’t nothing as precious to me…There ain’t nothing worth holding on to, money, dreams, nothing else... If it means it’s going to destroy my boy.” Page-106.
This quote shows that Mama is Perseverance because at the end of the book when Walter lost all the money and didn't tell Mama what he was doing with it in the first place. Now they can't pay some of the bills to the new house she still wanted better for her family so she kept going and got the house for the new addition to the family.

Mama is a very courageous character by being brave about everything and not letting her family "walk all over her" because when they tried to pressure her into giving the money to who and she doesn't let that get in her way. She goes with her own path and what she believes is the best option for the family. She doesn't let anything stop her from what she wants to do like for an example when she got the house in the all Caucasian race area her family wanted her not to pay for the house nor did Lindner want their family to live in the area he was going to pay them not to live over there.

The colors are used by courageous and they are used to describe Mama because she is bold when she talks to her family and very wise and in the picture the person has her hands up like they are free and Mama she is very free, she don't make decisions she just go with the flow. Mama is the type of character that is always happy even in hard times, she might get angry when it really affects her, she always tries to lift other people spirits up even when she cant lift hers.

When the poem says "i need the courage to see my future" shes not just thinking about her future shes thinking about her whole family's future like when Ruth is having a baby she brought a house so they could have more room. When Beneatha wanted to be a doctor she put money out for her to go to school. Another way she was looking out for her family's future is when she forgave her son for losing the money but she still went through so her family could be happy.

The family have very hard times where they were sharing a small bathroom, they didn't make that much money, they always argued about things, but they always get back up together and always help each other get through it. when the song says " And you can't find the fighter" that means for Mama is that she wanted to give up when she heard that Walter had lost the money but she wanted better for her family she she didn't.

Post 8- Theme and Quotes- Mama

Gender/Feminism
“Lord, ever since I was a little girl, I always remembers people saying, ‘Lena--Lena Eggleston, you aims too high all the time. You needs to slow down and see life a little more like it is. Just slow down some.’ That’s what they always used to say down home—’Lord, that Lena Eggleston is a highminded thing. She’ll get her due one day!’” P. 139
The quote supports the theme because Mama is talking a out when she was little she always let people say anything to her so when she thinks back to people saying that she doesn't let that happen anymore she does whatever she wants whenever she wants and nobody stops her. Another reason the quote supports the theme is when she actually started doing and pushing more for her family because people kept telling her to stop and give up on things that don't ever work out.
