The budget measures are important to me as a Singaporean, there will be less financial stress on my parents if they plan to have a baby due to the increased baby bonus and the larger amount of money put into the Child Development Accounts (CDA), and due to the longer paternity leave for fathers, this allows him to spend more time with his children and form a stronger connection with them.

What are the budget measures: Tobacco increased by 15 percent. Registration fee for high end cars increasing by 320 percent. Residential properties are increasing by 1 to 2 percent in tax from previous years and non residential flats increasing by 1 to 2 percent for certain prices and expected to generate 5 million more per year.

As a student:
As a student it is important to understand because we need to know why the richer has to pay more taxes. So that they do not look down at the poor.

As a Singaporean:
We have to understand that we have to work together and rise together.

What are the budget measures about?
- Lowering the cost of living in Singapore to better accomodate first time Singaporean families.
- This can be seen in the increase of number of first time families buying resale flats.
- Father paternity leave has been increased from 2 weeks to 4 weeks.
- This is to break the assumed stereotype that mothers are the ones to accomodate to the child i.e the father is the breadwinner, The mother is a housewife.
- The move was made to encourage fathers to take a more inclusive role in the child's upbringing.
- This may backfire as the fathers may user the 4 week leave to do other activities/ leave all the work to the mother
- There is no real incentive for the fathers to participate in the child's upbringing, It is purely based on the mindsets of the parents

more support for lower income families

there are different programs to help lower income families, gain financial stability. An example is the Comcare endowment fund, which has $300 million top up , which will go to lower income families to support them. In the future, students with coming from low income backgrounds will also have more childcare places with rates as low as $3 a month, so parents can go back to work while children can learn to socialize and learn valuable skills. Students' will have their finances being taken care of and they do not have to worry about finances and only focus on their education. This also reenforces meritocracy as people of any background are able to contribute to society, to drive singapore forward.
