Meerkats
in You can make ochre out of rocks that have iron oxide. They have to be soft and they are like the paint we use today. The aboriginals used it in their ceremonies and it was extremely useful for art and you can find it on the walls of cave in cave paintings.
WHAT I KNOW NOW IS,
Sedimentary rocks are formed by rocks that are weathered, the pieces of weathered rock travel to places like the mouths of rivers and form silt. The silt is layered up and compacts due to pressure that builds, getting the final result of rock. Igneous rocks are formed when hot rocks or magma/lava cool down and solidify, getting rock, igneous rock. Metamorphic rock is made when a pre-existing rock is metamorphisised or deformed due to intense heat under the ground. The metamorphic rocks can sometimes be seen on the earths surface. You can tell these different rocks apart by scratching them, looking at them and even licking them, a sedimentary rock often tastes like mud because it is silt that it is made of. Coal is a sedimentary rock, it is an organic sedimentary rock as it is made of rotting plant and animal material under the ground and through lots and lots of years forms coal.
Emeralds are one of the most prized gemstones and are mainly found in Columbia and Brazil. The ancient Egyptians used emeralds as jewellery but is not considered valuable by today's standards.
Igneous rocks formed underground are called plutonic and above ground are called volcanic. Weathering is caused when wind, rain, water or hail weathers a rock down, a batholith that is exposed on the surface of the earth will be weathered down. Other then those ways of weathering there is actually more, a few others like, root wedging, when the wedge of a plant gets inside a crack of a rock and slowly grows, breaking apart the rock, and ice wedging, ice that forms in the cracks of rocks also expanding and breaking the rock, water expands 10% while frozen, also another is erosion which is a natural way of the rock breaking down.
I found out what an environmental geologist is, they are in charge of where people can put their mines and nuclear waste and nuclear power plants, though that is their job they also study the soil too, they are in charge of where the mines are put but the people who work at the mines burrow kilometres into the ground anyway and that absolutely cannot be good for the environment.

BadboxJelly9
Rocks are made of stone. Many kinds of stone exist, and many stones can contain metals. Stone can vary due to the height it was found on. Such as when a rock is found high up, it might be different than rocks below sea level. Rocks are pushed and pulled around by land erosion and land slip. Rocks are used to make gravel paths. Rocks are sometimes chewed on by animals so their teeth are cleaned and sharpened. The biggest rock is Ularu in the outback of Australia. Mountains can count as big rocks, but they are not officially rocks. Some trees grow off moss on rocks, and it looks like the tree is growing out of the rock. It is not, but it still looks pretty cool.

BadboxJelly9
Rocks are made of a substance found in the earths mantle called magma. When magma cools it becomes an igneous rock. Igneous is Latin for born out of fire. Rocks can pick up traces of other minerals and metals that contaminate it and turn it into beautiful gemstones. Goes to show that imperfections can lead to beautiful things. Rocks will be eroded by water and rock slides and will follow the water streams to the ocean where they collect up as a new type of rock called sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary rocks are made of sand, dirt and other sediment of eroded rocks. This means they are the best form of fossil preservation because the way they form is gradual and graceful. These rocks can erode too, being driven beneath ground and half melted, then twisted, layered and changed into a metamorphic rock, a rock that has gone through dramatic change. These rocks can melt again, and cool to igneous rocks. When this happens it is called the rock cycle, because the igneous rock changes to sedimentary rock, then that changes to metamorphic, and then it goes back again. The rock cycle can also be done in different ways other than the simple cycle. Some rocks are different to others. They are made in different ways, with different materials. Obsidian is made by quick cooling magma. Sapphires are made when a rock cools with an iron contamination.
