Students were able to choose what tools and how to present projects.  This is an example of a powerpoint presentation done by a 7th grader.  Once you click on a piece of the armor it will take you to a different page in the power point to describe only that piece of the armor.  Great JOB!!!

     You have been selected for a summer internship with the TN Department of Energy.   Your welcome folder contains the information you will need for the program.   Make sure you read through the entire packet before beginning and ensure that you have all required documents.   

     Your summer internship responsibilities will occur in two phases.  Phase I of your project requires your task force to review the electrical circuitry of a housing unit and determine the total impedance (resistance).   You must then develop a linear equation that relates power usage to monthly electrical cost.   Once you have completed the Phase I requirements, you will review your findings with your project leader (Mrs. Amanda Reisen).

      During Phase II, you will compare and contrast the electrical costs of each unit.  Your task force must then make a recommendation as to which unit is the most cost efficient and which unit is the least.

     You are expected to present your findings in a professional presentation that utilizes data charts and graphs that support your recommendation.  The Department of Energy requires all task force members to maintain and update a group/individual survey, and a sample log of your work and finding on each house unit.  This log must include any notes taken during the day, your work on house computations and must be submitted with your final project.

     You will have access to Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point, and graphing calculators for use during your presentation.   The Department of Energy’s resource center contains additional information on circuit symbols, websites and practice problems dealing with complex numbers that may assist you in completing your task.

The H&R Block Budget Challenge was an online simulation that immersed students into the financial life of a recent college graduate. Within this game, students paid bills, managed expenses, saved money, invested in retirement and paid taxes. This critical learning happened in classrooms nationwide and came with the chance to win scholarships along the way. This learn-by-doing education approach allowed high schoolers to make real-world mistakes without facing real-world consequences.
