SOUND
-What dynamic(s) do you hear? (piano, mezzo-piano, mezzo-forte, forte)

I hear forte, mezzo forte, mezzo piano, and piano.

-Do the dynamics change over time? How?

The piece begins with forte, lowering to a mezzo forte at certain points. Eventually it progresses into a fortissimo, then decrescendos from mezzo piano to piano.

Harmony

-Is the piece in MAJOR or Minor?

The piece is in minor.

-Does that change throughout the piece?

The piece remains in minor throughout the entire duration.

Melody
-Does the melody have a wide or narrow range?

The melody has a wide range.

-Is it mostly Conjunct (stepwise) or Disjunct (jumps around)?

The melody is disjunct.

Rhythm
-What is the meter (time signature) of the piece?

4/4

-Does that change or stay the same?

Stay the same.

Growth
-How could you describe the piece from start to finish (ABA, Verse/Chorus, etc)?

The piece starts out with a progression of repeated notes. It then changes into more disjunct high notes. Finally it transitions to a sound similar to the first part. The music begins to quiet until it finally ends.

-Are any sections repeated/sound like things you heard earlier?

Yes, the beginning seems to repeat itself at the end.

The artwork portrays a boy alone in the city, surrounded by light.

-What is the mood of the piece? What informs your interpretation?

The mood is calm and melancholic. The colors help express that and so do the soft lines.

-What might the artwork sound like musically? (Ex-Dark timbres, fast tempo, lots of dynamic changes).

The artwork would most likely sound slow paced and calming. It would probably be in a minor key to show the lonely mood. I chose guitar as the instrument of choice.

I focused on the harmony, melody, and rythm.

This piece is in minor.

The piece is in minor and is mostly step-wise in notes. This conveys the calm mood of the artwork.

I added additional melodies and chords and changed a few of the notes.

The new notes fit well together and avoid sounding disjunct. The new chords tie the notes together.

Add more melodies/harmonies

-What other musical elements does your piece need in order to be shared?

I need to complete the melody. I may also add another instrument to the piece other than the guitar.
