I really like remixes, BUT only when they're done well. There are times when I'll listen to a remix on the radio and it just sounds awful. I think they're a really great way to get creative and listen to a song with a different perspective. Here is the same song remixed by two different people! (By the way I like both of the remixes)

But isn't using samples from other people's song kind of like stealing or taking credit for something that isn't yours?

Although some people think it's stealing, I think that as long as you give credit where credit is due, then it's okay. I think remixes are a good way for people to express their individuality without having to come up with an entire song on their own. I know that I would never be able to write my own song, but I bet with a little bit of practice I could maybe come up with a decent remix. MAYBE... lol

When people don't give rightful credit and claim the music as their own.
This is something that I have seen a lot. Artist will sample beats or a melody from music on soundcloud and the original artist will get upset and claim that they stole their music because no credit was given.
Honestly it's just like a moral thing. If you sample, give credit. It's as simple as that.

Changing the Genre.

There are often times when a remix will complete change the genre of the original song. For example, making a country song sound like an electronic song.
(This is definitely not my favorite kind of remix. But it happens)

It definitely has. Especially with all the social media platforms we have now. I feel like you used to have to go to a record producer and show them your music and hope they liked you and gave you a chance.
But now you can easily upload your music on to youtube or soundcloud and if you get enough attention, you could get yourself a record deal.
