Zeus is the god of sky and thunder and always faces his battle without armor because of how invincible he is. Strength, confidence, immortality, wisdom, and especially protection. Zeus is known to never wear armor because he doesn’t need it, and that he is capable of protecting himself without shielding. He was saved by his mother by being hidden while his mother gave Cronus a stone to swallow instead. He went off to live on an island with a goat to nurse him. When he was of age, Zeus went back to his father and forced him to cough back up his siblings. Zeus then married his sister Hera, and gained control of Mount Olympus while sending his brothers Hades and Poseidon to the underworld and the sea. He acts as the narrator and also will occasionally help out Odysseus and gives Athena persimmon to help out Odysseus herself. But other than assisting Athena or Odysseus, Zeus did not have any other reason to have. “ [researchers speculate] he was absent from the non-Homeric narratives because they ‘were not compelled [to] make the kind of narrative decisions’ that are the province of Zeus'' (Ready). Zeus had no major role in the odyssey other than to help out others.
