Going off point one, students often learn about white men and how amazing they are, even if that is not the truth. For example: George Washington is often thought to be a wonderful person, but that can not be farther from the truth.

When discussing the people who make up a majority of our history books; we must ask ourselves why mainly white people are being written about. We mustt help students understand that the homogeneity of the Constitutional Convention was not the result of people with other intersectionality's opting out.

We need to educate students about the suffragists; the people who fought from women's right to vote in the US. This does mainly revolve around women, educators should be sure they are not erasing, marginalizing, and decentering important stories.

It is also very important for educators to take the time and teach properly about Jim Crow Laws and the segregation between the early 1950s to the late 1960s. Educators need to ensure white women suffragists are not the only people being shown, the same pitfalls of erasing complexity, marginalizing and whitewashing folds, and obscuring the role of social movements is not happening. Educators need to make sure they are doing those things to appear less controversial.

The conversation about teaching what truly happened, without erasing history; making sure educators are not whitewashing, marginalizing, or obscuring the facts. It is still good to discuss powerful leaders that have the typical intersectionality that is taught (White, Cis, Male, Straight, Wealthy), but educators also need to ensure that is not the only thing they are teaching. Along with that, they need to make an effort to teach what truly happened during that time period, even if it is not easy to hear. As as educator, you can not erase part of history by not teaching it simply because it is hard to handle, children still have a right to know that part of history.

How can I as an educator make sure the children take what they are learning as serious as it is. I feel like a lot of the time history is glossed over, and students to not put themselves in the shoes of what is being taught. They need to imagine what it would be like to be in certain people shoes, whether that is the political leader that we are learning about, or even the people who are being oppressed against.

For example; while learning about Black history, a lot of the time students are shown that not many people opposed against desegregating the south. However, that is not true and the reality is apart of this countries history.

This can obviously look different from every grade, and it is important to also make sure I am teaching them age appropriate things. That can also be hard because people have different opinions on what can be considered age appropriate.
