I did a portrait on cardboard using old pastel. I choose the colors green, pink, and purple for a specific reason. I chooses purple because purple represents royalty and I think everyone should treat themselves once in a while as if they are royalty. I choose green because it represents growth and I think I have grown as a person. And lastly I chooses the color pink for my hair because pink usually represents being playful and charming. I chooses it mainly because with my friends I am considered to be the funny one and very playful. For the background I choose the color yellow. Yellow represents positivity and in my life today I am surrounded by positivity and people supporting me and loving me for who I am. There are grey hexagons in the background as well because sometimes there are dull people in my life who bring me down but I am able to over come them and focus on the positivity. Some struggles I had was trying to make the dark on light green look natural. I placed the two keys over the others and at an angle so that they are pointing towards other aspects of the project. I also divided up the drawing with boxes to give it an organized look. I choose bright colors on dark so that the keys stood out to others and they could see that they had significance in the drawing. I shaded everything else with a pencil so that the keys stood out even more. At the begining i struggles with getting different shades with just a pencil but by the end I was able to shade evrything with only one pencil. It starts out from the left. The left being nature, before civilization. It is peaceful and not disturbed by anything. But then people start coming in and building buildings and inventing and innovating. When they are inventing there is less nature and the green starts to fade away into the yellow which represents the foundation. The foundation is becoming dull. The one car at the end of the road is trying to escape the cycle of civilization but fails. And by the end, on the right side civilization is a mess. There is no more structure and everything had become dull and gray. When I started the project I had trouble figuring out where I wanted to place certain things but by the time I started it all just came to me and it was quite easy to figure out where I wanted things to go. Then I just played around with it drawing the faces and it got easier as I practiced more. For the flowers a challenge i experienced was that my pen dies half way through so i had to get a new pen and thats why the flowers are a different color than the pots they are in. I have grown during this project because I would get lost in the beginning and keep loosing where I was but by the end I knew what I was doing and exactly what I was drawing and I didn't need to watch myself draw. I am able to make sure the proportions are accurate and that the hands and feet aren't too small or the legs too short. I think practicing with gesture drawings really helped because I was able to get the shape down and the go back and work on smaller details. I also think I improved in my hand drawings since you reccomended drawing the spaces inbetween instead of the hand itself. I know we weren't supposed to have the figure just right in the center of the page so I interrupted the figure with the cart and added another cart to distract from the figure being in the center. I used water color for the background and the figure itself then I outlined the figure and the cart with pen. I put photos of famous dead musicians on flies. The idiom means a group of people to drop dead or fall ill. All these musicians are someone people looked up too and they all passed away.
