         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li><strong>Diabetes</strong>: Many children are becoming increasingly <mark>influenced</mark> to eat unhealthy food products. <ul><li>These fast-food products are plagued with sugar, sodium, and <em>saturated fats</em>, which all help to increase a child’s likelihood to develop obesity. </li></ul></li><li><strong>Gastroenteritis</strong>: <em>Inflammation</em> of intestinal tract caused by <mark>viruses or bacteria</mark> and is caused by contact with infected people, objects, food, or water. <ul><li>Since children are constantly on the move and have <em>poor hygiene</em> habits, they are more likely to touch or come into contact with something that carries the virus.</li></ul></li><li><strong>Fifth Disease</strong>: Due to the <em>nature</em> of people and surfaces children come into contact with, especially in school, it is very likely for them to encounter the <mark>viral infection</mark> of Fifth Disease.</li><li><strong>Malnutrition</strong>: less <mark>accessibility</mark> to food in underdeveloped countries. </li><li><strong>Obesity:</strong> early on obesity can lead to <mark>future health issues</mark> in adulthood (diabetes, cardiovascular disease...)</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Children can develop dietary restrictions due to certain <mark>allergies</mark> which may arise from children having weak immune systems. <ul><li>They may restrict the foods these children can eat such as tree nut allergies and shellfish allergies.</li></ul></li><li>As well, it is common for many children to develop <mark>intolerances</mark> to certain foods which may affect their <em>eating habits.</em> <ul><li><strong>Popular intolerances:</strong> <em>dairy and gluten intolerances</em>, which may lead to children choosing alternatives like almond milk or soy milk, as well as gluten free products.</li></ul></li><li>Based on the <mark>culture</mark> you were brought up in, cultural restrictions may occur due to <em>religion as well as ethnicity.</em> <ul><li>For example, children brought up in a Jewish household can only eat kosher meat, so they may not be allowed </li><li>to eat other foods.</li></ul></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Children spend most of their time in <mark>school</mark> from around <em>8 a.m until 3 p.m.</em></li><li>This means their daily lunches and snacks are consumed in school except for dinner and breakfast which are eaten usually at <mark>home</mark> </li><li><strong>School cafeterias</strong> play an important role on a child's routine as <em>50% of a child's calories</em> are consumed at school</li><li>Overall, either the parents (caregivers) or the school is responsible for <em>providing children with their nutrients </em></li><li>Also, these foods will influence how the child will be in the future so they contribute to <mark>determining the lifestyle</mark> that child will lead : <ul><li>For example, if a parent makes a plane sandwich daily for their child, their lunch habit later on will be to eat a sandwich <em>missing many key nutrients</em> which <strong>becomes that child's lifestyle. </strong></li></ul></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If children don't consume adequate amounts of key nutrients, their <mark>bodies won't develop properly</mark> which is known as <strong>stunting</strong> in children.</div><ul><li>Stunting in children: a consequence of <em>multiple factors</em> that are often linked to <em>poverty</em>. <ul><li>Can lead to developmental problems and is often <mark>impossible</mark> to correct (can be prevented).</li><li>Can affect <strong>child's education and ability to learn</strong> which can turn into a <em>vicious cycle</em> of negativity such as their professional life later on. </li></ul></li></ul><div>These early childhood years decide what the child's future will look like and consuming empty calories can result in many <mark>deficiencies</mark>:</div><ol><li>Iron deficiency anemia; </li><li>Protein, calcium and vitamin D deficiency </li></ol><div>The child's <mark>cognitive thinking</mark> can be disrupted by choosing unhealthy foods as their brain relies on these nutrients to function:</div><ul><li>But by the <strong>age of 6,</strong> children have developed many of the food habits they will carry with them through the <em>rest of their lives</em>.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
