The primary consumers that rely on the plants as a source of food and energy won't have enough food for all of them. they would eat all of the producers left and there would be no more, or hardly any for them to eat. This will cause many of them to die. The secondary consumers that rely on primary consumers as a food source won't have enough food because the primary consumers below them died out due to the lack of producers. This would continue up the energy pyramid all the way to tertiary consumers or apex predators. This event could also affect organisms' diets. If the number of plants were reduced to half, the herbivores that eat only plants wouldn't have enough food to survive. The same thing would happen to omnivores. They could eat meat, but they eat herbivores as well so they wouldn't have enough food either. The carnivores that eat the meat of animals that eat plants would have the same thing happen to them as well. The bobcats one of puente hills consumers eat hares and that is important for their diet. Suppose the plants that the hare and berries that they eat are reduced by half half.Then most of the hare population will die. If they die then the bobcat population will start to die out. And if the bobcats die well then there will be less for the humans to eat.

This would happen because nature has a ladder of consumers, producers, and decomposes. If a producer could not produce enough food, consumers would starve and if consumers die of starvation that sucks for us humans because we lose our food which is consumers or producers. Also if a lot of consumers die then the entire population of let’s say a rabbit would become smaller. So in conclusion if the catastrophe were to occur, all of Puente Hills would be in a hard situation because animals will die, and if a entire population were to die,  consumers would no longer have enough energy to live.
