The reflection on the role of teachers

The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has sparked a profound transformation in the way we teach and learn. Tools like ChatGPT, LuzIA, Grammarly, and others provide immediate feedback, personalized learning paths, and real-time interaction, making the learning process more dynamic and accessible. However, these tools do not replace the role of the teacher — they redefine it.

Teachers are no longer just transmitters of content, but guides, facilitators, and ethical mediators in an increasingly technological world. As Haci Hasan Yolcu points out in his article "Redefining the Teacher’s Role in Education through Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)," educators must shift from controlling the learning to designing meaningful learning experiences where students take an active role. The teacher becomes a critical thinker who curates content, interprets data, supports emotional development, and fosters collaborative and reflective environments.

AI offers great opportunities for innovation in the classroom, but it is the teacher who gives learning its human meaning and ethical direction. Educators are essential to teach students how to use technology responsibly, to detect bias, and to think critically about the information they receive. While AI can assess grammar or suggest corrections, only a teacher can recognize a student’s emotional needs, adapt to cultural contexts, and inspire with empathy and purpose.

In conclusion, AI should be seen not as a threat, but as a powerful ally in the teaching process. The role of the teacher is more relevant than ever: not to compete with technology, but to lead its integration in a pedagogically sound and ethically responsible way. Teaching today means being a guide who bridges knowledge and values, technology and humanity.
