Google Forms just may be your new best friend! This handy tool can be used not only to create assessments with differing question styles (multiple choice, open response, etc.), but it can also be designed to automatically grade! It can even be set up to sync with your Google Classroom! Way to go, Google. Depending on your skill level/speed it can take up to 45 minutes to design your first time, so just budget that into your schedule and the time will decrease as you get into the swing of it.

Tech-Tip 2: 
Kahoot! keeps everyone on their toes! Not only is it easy to put together, but the kids absolutely love it! Kahoot! is designed to feel like a game, with a competition to match, so energies are high the whole time. Classroom management and culture always come down to relationship, relationship, relationship. One way to build relationship using technology as a tool establish open student-teacher communication. There are many tools through which to do this, but out district currently utilizes Clever. Clever is main hub for all district provided applications like iReady, Boddle, etc., and it also has the message function. Through this, students can message their teacher directly with any questions or concerns (see communication section for more).

TECH-Tip 2: 
Class Dojo, while wonderful for building parent-teacher connection communication (see communication section for more), also has a built-in reward/incentive system teachers may choose to use. Kids love to work for Dojo points and see their "monster pet" grow. In light of "The Age of the Shut Down," technological tools have proved to be more necessary than we had ever thought. One way to foster collaboration when we do not have the luxury of being together, is Google Meet. Teachers can create breakout rooms wherein students may collaborate with peers in small groups or partnerships.

TECH-Tip 2: 
Whether in-person or not, other fun collaboration tools are Google Jamboard and Google Slides. Both applications can be used to assign sections of work to individual, pairs, or groups of students to work on at the same time. In addition to Clever's messaging feature (see Classroom Management/Culture), teacher's and students can use good ole Gmail to communicate as well. This technique is beneficial for more than just communication, but for college and career readiness as well. Email is a tool they will need to operate well throughout their whole life. The earlier they can learn how to use it well and with the proper etiquette, the better! 

TECH-Tip 2: 
Class Dojo is another multi-faceted tool with many wonderful features (see Classroom Management/Culture for more). In addition to the point system, it also has a messaging function as well. These messages can be pushed directly through to whichever device parents are logged in (phone, computer, tablet, etc.) and offers real-time messaging. This allows parents to message at their convenience, and teachers to view and respond in the like. Good ole Google search is fantastic for finding answers to questions, but Youtube is where the answers truly lie. This is information hub where many professionals have chosen to share their wisdom with the rest of the world, teachers included. If there is an issue you're unsure of, this is a great place to start, search, and solve. 

TECH-Tip 2: 
As cliche as this may sound, one of your safest bets to mastering technological glitches is to make friends with your school and district's tech peeps. The best way I have found to do this is do your part. Go through the basic trouble-shooting process and try, and be ready to share what you've tried with them when you approach them. Understand that they are very busy and their time is just as valuable as yours. Also, that your lack of planning and preparation does not constitute an emergency for them. Sometimes solving problems takes time. Don't expect them to jump through hoops, just because you did not plan ahead. And most importantly- be kind, always. If you can get in good with your IT department, they will take care of you. Planbook is planning site that allows teachers to map out their day, week, month, quarter, semester, and year (whatever you're ready for!). You can set specific time periods with time blocks and custom names, and even have it be color-coded! There is a monthly (or yearly fee for a bit of a discount), but the first year is free!

TECH-Tip 2: 
If you're like me and don't want to pay- Google Docs is right up your alley! Google Docs can be set up similarly to Planbook, even down to the color-coding, if that's your cup of tea. Just create tables for each week, fill in your time blocks/subjects, and fill it in! Now that your lesson plans are stored digitally, you can also use Google Docs to create a sub plan template! This template can be pre-filled with all your rituals, routines, schedule, etc.. That way, when you need a substitute, all you need is to fill in the blanks! This saves hours of your precious time and can be edited from virtually anywhere that you are and then shared to those who need it- subs, admin, and more. 

TECH-Tip 2: 
Once your sub plan template is filled in and ready to go, you use browser's bookmark tool to make your life even easier! Since Hawaii classrooms have a teacher Chromebook that stays in class, you can use it as a substitute resource. Set the password to something generic, and on that computer's browser, create a bookmark folder, "SUB FOLDER." Within it, you will want to keep a link to your sub plan document, music platforms, online timers, and any other digital tools you use regularly like GoNoodle, Google Meet links, Clever, and any specific curricula links your sub might need.
