I have similar experiences to moving around a lot when I was younger.
My family does have arguments and my parents have different ways of doing things, I also have a sibling.
I have never had a time where I have been bullied physically for being a good student.

Social Class

Jeanette and her family are in the low class of the economy and are never able to have a stable home. They struggle to get by and refuse help. Her father likes to be indepenent and tries to get money in inefficient ways. They don't have lots of food nor nice things. Their social class is close to poverty in this book.

Jeanette was promising her mom to protect the trees from the wind and to water it everyday so the tree will grow tall and straight and that was her mom's response.
This quote stood out to me because people's experiences make up how they are today, which is what Jeanette's mother refers to for the leaning Joshua trees.

A significant event that happens often in the story is how Jeanette's father drinks. I think the purpose is to foreshadow the reason as to why he became an alcoholic.
The mood created in various parts of the book is chaotic. Each chapter includes something tragic, adventurous or dangerous.
A gap I would like the author to fill in is why the father is always on the run. On page 19 the author states "We were always doing the skedaddle, usually in the middle of the night. I sometimes heard Mom and Dad discussing the people who were after us.

In One scene of the book Jeanette was learning how to swim with her father. Her father used the technique of letting them learn themselves. She struggled to stay above and would struggle everytime she was pushed in. One of my memories is when my grandparents were teaching us how to swim and they threw my brother into the pool and he was about 2 at the time. He was kicking and flailing his arms around struggling to keep up to the surface. My mom had to jump in to pick him up.

What was the work’s original intended audience? To what extent are you similar or different from that audience?

I think the intended audience was for people who would have had similar struggles growing up or somewhat the same experiences. I am a bit different compared to the intense situations the characters are put through but I can relate similarly to an extent.

How do economic conditions determine the character's lives?

The economic conditions determine the characters conditions because their economic class is a lowest class meaning the struggles they face is mainly money wise. The conditions they live through due to lack of money is very poor. Cleanliness and hygiene are in tragic conditions because they cannot afford necessities in the economy.

Given their backgrounds, how plausible is the characters’ behavior?

Despite Jeanette's harsh background and all the obstacles she may face she is always positive about her life. I say her behavior is the opposite of plausible because while she may be young in these chapters she proves to show her behavior is naturally good energy.
