Then, on the day that the old witch wanted to eat Hansel, Gretel tricks the old witch into crawling into the oven, shuts the door and gets rid of her. Hansel and Gretel collect all of the old witch's precious jewels and bring them back home to their father. It is shown that Hansel is responsible when he is always looking out for and comforting his little sister. Gretel shows that she is observant when she outwits the old witch.
