Malala Yousafzai was born in Pakistan on the 12th of July, 1997. Her father was a teacher and ran a girl's school in their village. Malala loved school, but in January 2008, girls were no longer allowed to go to school. In 2012 Malala made a speech out why girls should go to school. In October on the same year, a masked and came onto their bus holding a gun. He asked who Malala was before shooting her in the side of her head. She woke in a hospital in England 10 days later. the doctor and nurses told her what happened, but also told her that people all over the world are praying for her and her recovery. In 2014 after moths of surgery and rehabilitation, Malala joined her family in a new house in England. Malala had the choice to live a quiet life or make the most of her new life, and that's what she did. Malala was determined to continue her fight until every girl had an education they deserved. With her father, she set up a charity to help girls without an education. Because of this, in 2014, she received a Noble Prize and become the youngest person to ever receive this. In 2018, Malala continues to fight for girls right to an education and ensures that all girls in need get 12 years of free, safe, quality education. Malala also travels around to different counties and continues to fight against gender discrimination. (Fund, M 2018)

In January 2008, a group of Muslims extremists known as the Taliban said that girls were no longer allowed to go to school as they believed educating girls is un-Islamic, meaning that to educate girls, is to not follow the religion.

As the Taliban were a group of extremists with a lot of power, people listened to them. Many girls however, wanted to rebel against this and go to school, but it was just too dangerous. When Malala was fifteen-years-old, she still wanted to get an education so she stood up to the Taliban community. in 2012, she made a speech about why girls deserved an education. Even then, at only 15 years old, Malala stood up to what she believed in and that was equality and rights to education.

4 . Why Malala inspires me

When I was younger, my family and I went on holiday and my mum was reading this book about a girl called Malala. I wasn’t too sure what it was about at the time, all I knew was this Malala girl had been shot in the head. I later found out she got shot on a school bus, after trying to go to school. At that moment in time, I really did not like school. I did not quite understand why we needed to go and saw no benefit in learning what we were learning. This girl however, got shot in the head after trying to go to school. She lived in a country where girls had been banned from getting an education and this made me realise how lucky we are. The thing that inspired me most about Malala, was how she got shot, yet she continued to fight for an education. She stood up to what she believes in and what she thought was right, even after she had almost died, and she did not want revenge. Malala is someone who I look up to and changes the way I think about school.

Like the rest of us, Malala is human. Like the rest of us, she makes mistakes because she is human. Something that proves she is human, is she got shot and she bled. Humans bleed, superheroes don’t because superheroes aren't human. Someone almost killed her, and superheroes don’t almost die. She spent months recovering from this attack, and superheroes don’t need time to recover, but she didn’t give up. She kept fighting and she continues to fight today. Malala isn’t a superhero, but she continues to fight like one. She isn’t perfect, because she is human and no human is perfect.
