It was my love of A.P. World History that decided the subject of which I wanted to teach (World History), as well as my major (History). What truly inspired me to pursue a career in teaching, however, were the few teachers that impacted my life, for both the positive and the negative. As a child of separated parents, my childhood consisted of custody battles, court cases, and being the messenger of spiteful messages between my parents. It was my personal lawyer that was finally able to get me to open up about my struggles; After years of keeping my mouth shut and going with the flow, despite the intensity of the current, I found the strength to speak up for myself, allowing me to share the pain that my family was causing me. It is this sense of courage, provided from a legal side, that I want to give to kids. Everyone's case is different, but I firmly believe that everyone (especially kids) deserves to be heard.
