The general floor plan of the classroom will follow an open concept that will allow students to be in an environment with fewer distractions while incorporating homely accents to make the room feel "warm" and welcoming. I decided to utilize two picnic tables and benches instead of desks because the classroom will connect that homely feel and allow students to work collaboratively during group work. Additionally, I chose to have a mural painted on the same wall as the whiteboard to show students that they are part of the community and the city of Chicago. The technology TV board is in the middle of the whiteboard and will be utilized for mathematics Presentations and work that requires me to present material. In the back corner of the classroom, behind the half-circle table, is a calm corner where students can sit in a chair or on a pillow to regulate their emotions. The "L" shaped portion of the classroom is dedicated to the language arts, library, and social-emotional learning part of the classroom. Students will be given the option to sit on the carpet with a pillow or on the sectional couch.

The goal for my classroom is to provide a comfortable and safe place where students can learn without the fear of getting an answer wrong. The core elements of the lessons will be centered on Social and Emotional Frameworks. This classroom is modeled after a 5th-grade pull-out classroom where students will rotate classrooms throughout the day. Most of their belongings will be placed in their lockers in the hallways. The subjects covered in this classroom will be language arts and mathematics.

During the lesson: The tables are a great alternative to desks because students will not have traditional storage areas under the table. These tables are also long enough for students to spread their materials on their workspace if necessary. Additionally, these tables will be utilized during group work or educational partner games. Students will be allowed to sit on “wobble chairs” as a form of alternative seating. Wobble chairs are utilized because some students struggle to sit in traditional seating methods, and these alternative seats can help the students who need support while sitting. Occasionally, when the lesson is taught on the library carpet, students can sit with a pillow, on the couch, or in a “wobble chair.” After the lesson, students will work on individual work. They will have the opportunity to sit at one of the tables, at the teacher's table, or in the library. The reason students have freedom in their seating is so that they can feel comfortable while they work. The goal is that if they feel comfortable, that more work will be completed.

Beginning of class period: At the beginning of the class period, students will approach the storage area of the classroom. They will remove the required notebook that has been stored for the class and place all materials except their Chromebook and a pencil into their storage box. Once they have stored and collected the necessary belongings, they will grab a fidget from the fidget container located in the calm corner and then proceed to their seats. This will ensure that each student is prepared for the lesson and has a tool that will allow them to focus on learning.

Class jobs: Each student will be given a job. These jobs include “paper team,” “electrician,” “pencil sharpener,” “IT person,” and “gardener.” The job of students assigned to the paper team is to collect papers from the classroom and to turn the papers into the correct drawer in the turn-in center near the classroom entrance. The electrician will be in charge of turning the lights on and off when necessary. On an assigned day, the pencil sharpener will clean up their space five minutes before the end of the class period and sharpen the classroom pencils that are dull. In the front of the classroom, containers will hold sharpened pencils and dull pencils. The pencil sharpener will take the dull pencils, sharpen them, and place the newly sharpened pencils into the sharpened pencil container. The IT person will be in charge of helping other students navigate the technological aspects of the Chromebook or classroom. If a student needs help finding a specific assignment or has trouble logging into any program, the IT person will help. The gardener will be responsible for watering the plants in the classroom.

Bathroom breaks: For students who have to use the restroom during class, they will raise their hands and make a peace sign with their fingers. This will notify me that the students are asking to use the restroom. Students will cross their two fingers if it is an emergency. Students will generally be allowed to use the restroom after the lesson for the day. I will have one hall pass, and only one student can leave the classroom at a time.

Transition: When students transition from one part of the class to another during centers or after the lesson, they must clean up their area and then return to their seats at their table. After they are seated, I will explain the next directions, and afterward, I will allow the students to make the transition.

Dismissal: During individual work time, a visual timer will be placed on the TV display, and a sound will play when it finishes. Once the sound plays, dismissal will start. Students will first return their fidgets to the fidget container, store their notebooks in the storage box, and pick up their belongings from the container. Students will travel to their next class independently when they finish storing and taking their belongings.

Also, during any Social and Emotional class lessons, students will participate in role plays regarding proper behavior and help create anchor charts that will be posted in different parts of the classroom. If there is a conflict between students, there will be an opportunity for the students to address it through a set of norms that discuss how to talk through a problem. If a student behaves inappropriately and the previous supports have not been working, then it might be necessary to call the student’s adult at home to discuss the behavior.

My main form of communication with parents will be through the Remind app. A website and application designed for teachers to message their student's parents. This will be used to send out biweekly newsletters about topics covered in class, reminders for parents to turn in forms for school, and general correspondence.

Additionally, at the beginning of the school year, I plan on having a "get to know you" conference over Zoom or Google Meets with my students' adults so that I can meet the family and talk about their child.

I want to utilize virtual reality, or VR, instruction in the classroom. The Floreo app helps students view and understand social interactions through a VR simulation. I will also utilize an app called Speech Kingdom, which allows students to learn from different social stories.

The support that I utilize with my students will depend on their needs.

Audio: However, one of the supports I will utilize the most will be a website and app called Vocaroo. I will use this website to create accommodations for different exams. I will record myself reading the questions to the students.

Text reading software: there are many different tools that I can use to have texts read aloud to students. Some applications that will allow me to help my students are Snap and Read as well as Read and Write. Additionally, there are accessibility features for both Mac and Windows software that my students will be taught about to help them succeed in sharing their knowledge.

Voice Typing: Some students may require support to relay their knowledge through voice typing. There are settings in most computers that allow the use of voice typing. I will enable these settings on the computers of students who need this support.

I plan on using Google Classroom to distribute many of the assignments I will hand to my students. This tool is a convenient platform that keeps student work organized, and teachers can use the included grade book to assess materials. Furthermore, included in the "Google Suite" are Google Forms. I will use Google Forms to evaluate student learning with quizzes and tests posted in this format. Every few 1 to 2 weeks, I will have a "feedback" form for students to fill out about the coursework.

Community of learning: Family Projects

Once a month, I will assign a project that must be filled out with another adult family member or guardian. These projects will allow students to ask their adults at home about topics related to the unit subject that will be taught. Each project will aim to involve the parents in the learning process by having the students write down a connection or quote from a family member. This response will create discussion among students in my classroom about the topic and hopefully inspire them to enjoy the upcoming unit. Additionally, the project will "bring" the "real world" into the classroom.

For example, If the science teacher has a unit on space, for language arts, the family project will discuss a learning moment about stars or planets and how the adult learned about them.

I plan on creating projects that will explore experimental learning through different mediums. I will advocate for my students to participate in community service-based projects through field trips that prepare them for the local and global society. I will read a few stories regarding The Children's Peace Prize and advocate for my students to brainstorm a community project. After brainstorming and working out different details, I would organize a field trip to allow them to participate in their project. Additionally, I would advocate for the students to nominate each other for the Children's Peace Prize. After the field trip and nominations, I would ask my students to reflect on the experience and what they had learned.
