There is no wrong answer here. It's only wrong if you do not explain your thinking with details. Comment on someone else's post in order to get full credit.

The society Lois Lowry writes in The Giver is truly considered utopian. I say this because a utopian society possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens. Like the society in Giver, it has eliminated fear, pain, hunger, illness, conflict, and hatred, all things that most of us would like to eliminate in our society are gone.

The giver society cannot be considered a utopian society because even though they try hard to be perfect if you really think about it its not perfect because perfect is different for everyone everyone has different likes and dislikes and different opinions, now if you try to change those opinions with machines or something you are changing someone and thats not perfect because you are messing around in someones head. And also the giver is not perfect because the people there don't even love each other and that is not perfect

I say that this society is not Utopian because things are not all perfect yet, things could be all perfect and then be Utopia but, as if now that society is not because they are not feeling happy, joyful but they are feeling the opposite of that which is pain. In utopia there is no such thing as pain there is no feeling sad, no crying nothing negative and only positive cause thats what makes it Utopia. But they are overall atleast trying be like Utopia so maybe sooner or later that society can be Utopian - Chris

I agree with Juliana because The society in the giver isn’t necessarily considered perfect although they do try to make it perfect. Perfect has different definitions depending on your perspective or what you consider perfect. So the society might not be perfect in everyone’s eyes. And you can’t change someone’s thinking just because they might think differently than you. Some people in the society might consider it perfect while others don’t because we all have different opinions and thoughts about things. Also in the giver no one is supposed to use the term “I love you” which can’t be considered perfect if they aren’t supposed to use a simple phrase to represent how much they love their family. - Arcelis

I don't think that the Giver's society is truly a Utopian society but close to one because the Giver still feels pain and other feelings and Jonas too so shouldn't everyone be the same or equal in a Utopia? Otherwise the society has done a good job to having everyone equal to each other and no pain or fear of anything.

The givers society truly cannot be considered as a Utopian Society since in this society there is no love or kind of actual feelings since the people in this society think that “love” is outdated. And no matter how hard they try to make their lifestyle and living perfect it’s not going to happen since like Juliana said everyone has their own dislike and likes And opinions. So, this is not a perfect Utopian society.

I think that The Giver's society could be considered a utopia because everything is perfect and there is no problems. The characters don't have to worry about things like global warming and pollution, because they managed to control the weather, or their grandparents getting sick (because they don't even have any). Even though the characters aren't attached to each other, everyone is happy and the society is perfect, which is what defines a utopia.
