Outrageous Rules

Rule 110: if a "sister of god" open a tavern to drink, then shall this woman be burned to death

Explanation: This rule is completely unfair and unjust because the punishment does not fit the crime. I do not believe a nun should be set on fire for having a drink at a bar.

Rule 209: If a man strike a free-born woman so that she lose her unborn child, he shall pay ten shekels for her loss.

Explanation: This rule seems to be very misogynistic. The woman goes through serious physical and mental trauma, while the man is completely and totally unharmed.

Rule We Could Use Today

Rule 14: If any one steal the minor son of another, he shall be put to death.

Explanation: I don't believe we should change anything about this rule. I believe if you kidnap a child you are causing them to have AT LEAST lifelong trauma, which can be deadly if the child's mental state declines enough. With that being said I believe you should be put to death for that in today's time.

Laws That Stuck Out

Rule 15: if anyone take a male or female slave of the court, or a male or female slave of a freed man, outside the city gates (to escape), he shall be put to death.

Explanation: This rule stuck out to me because I do not believe that a man or woman should be put to death for freeing a slave who is being put through probably torturous conditions. This seems to be the opposite of fair.

Rule 210. If the woman die, his daughter shall be put to death.

Explanation: This law stuck out to me because it shows just how Hammurabi thinks of women in his time.

Rule 282: If a slave say to his master: "You are not my master," if they convict him his master shall cut off his ear.

Explanation: This law stuck out to me because, like Rule 15, this rule shows how they treated and felt about slaves in Hamurabi's time.
