Advantages: The consultation is back and fourth straight away and not waiting for a reply like an email it's a quicker consultation. It's also more professional to have a face to face conversation and you can get more out form each other speaking face to face.
Disadvantages: If you don't get on with that person your having the face to face consultation with then you won't get the best out of it and will just be an awkward conversation and might be scared to discuss something with that person and you won't discuss everything to it's full potential.
An example of this that i've done is when i did my pitch for saying about my idea for a documentary to my team trying to persuade them to want to use my idea.

Advantages: If you don't have a great relationship with the person then Email is a great method on consulting aslong as it's written in a professional manner because you will get more out of an email if the relationship is not the best because you could talk about more and not be afraid to upset them like you would face to face. Emails can also be sent anytime anywhere really and if the other person regularly checks their emails then they will get it straight away.
Disadvantages: if they don't check their emails regularly then it could be one email a day which is really slow process in consulting about their work .
An example of this is me consulting my lecturer about what to do about our music video work and how we can do it and it helped massively.

Advantages: On a telephone call the main advantage you can have is that you're getting a reply back to you straight away. Also, on a phone call it's quite private so no-one can see what your doing an they don't what you've said and calls can be made anywhere and anytime.
Disadvantages: When on the call, you have to pay each minute so if the conversation is a long one then it will be costing you a lot. Also, if a lot of things are said in the call you might not remember everything that is said and it is hard to save a phone call and then it takes more time to go through that call and remember what you said in that call.
An example of this for me is phoning an actor up once for our documentary that we did and had to consult to him about where he needs to be and when.

Advantages: With text messaging if they're on their phone a lot then the text messaging is quick and easy and will be instant talking about their work. Also like email if they don't get on then they can talk about more than they would face to face. Also, if you agree on text then don't agree a few weeks later you have written evidence that you did agree with a screenshot.
Disadvantages: Using text message for consulting someone for work isn't really professional at all and companies will look at that when knowing they consulted over text message.

Video Conferencing

Advantages: An advantage for video conferencing for consulting someone is that you both save money on reduces travel time and expenses. If your quite high up in the company then having a video conference will help you with consulting someone who lives far away from you and you can stay in your office of you work in one.
Disadvantages: i think video conferencing someone to consult them about work is quite unprofessional and also to have a video conference you have to rely on having strong internet and it could be interrupted many times if you don't. Also, it's hard to keep a video conference as evidence for the company for the future if the product doesn't all go to plan.
An example of this is when for our documentary we video called someone on camera except that i haven't really used video conferencing.
