In early 1300s the Duke of Vilnius, Gediminas, had a dream one day while staying overnight near the Vilnele Rivers. His dream was of an iron wolf on a hill howling. When he woke he told his truted friend, Lizdeika, and being the voice of reason, Lizdeika told him to build a castle to protect himself and his people. After returing, he began construction on a hill in Vilnius where a wooden castle already stood.
