         <description><![CDATA[<div>Homework can be an effective tool when used appropriately. According to Carr (2013), the five characteristics of good homework are "purpose, efficiency, ownership, competence, and aesthetic appeal" (pg. 174). If students are given too much homework, homework that is too difficult, or homework that takes an inordinate amount of time it becomes ineffective. Homework should be used to practice procedural skills or to deepen understanding (Magana &amp; Marzano, 2014, pg. 71)</div>]]></description>
