After taking care of his chickens and doing some chores, Larry starts another unsuccessful workday in his garage, spending his time waiting for a customer. 
 When Larry comes home to grab a photo album for the lunch with his demented mother, he got shot by a masked man.

During patrol, Silas finds dead Morton Morrisette, who used to be in Silas baseball team, in a creek. 
 After getting concerned about Larry he sends his girlfriend Angie to check on Larry’s house because Silas is called to remove a snake which has been put in a mailbox. Irina Mott, one of the three female house owners, start flirting with Silas. 

Carl takes his son Larry to school by car and pick up a young boy named Silas and his mother because it is very cold outside and they do not have proper clothing. This is really bothering Larry’s mother and so this new routine finds abruptly an end. Larry thinks about his father who dislike him because of both, his appearance and interests. 

While searching for the hunting cabin where Silas and his mother live, Larry is thinking about his last school year where he has been bullied by his mostly black classmates. Nevertheless, he is now trying to make friends with Silas by teaching him how to shoot with a gun.
