Professor Shailey Minocha talked about 'Designing an Online Badged Open Course'. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in STEM is the course that she has designed and authored for the Open University.  This course which is free to use  "provides a toolkit for conducting Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)" that anyone can register and obtain a digital badge.
The presentation took place online (in Second life and ZOOM). I did not connect with  the speaker and I had no question but I found it a useful presentation as what strategies and tips the speaker shared can help teachers and instructional designers to design a free badged open course .
To me, designing an online course seemed easy but I realized that it is challenging, however the speaker shared interesting tips and advice for designing a successful online course. 
In the future, I'd like to design an online course to be freely available for anyone anywhere around the world.

I had no questions but interesting questions were addressed by others. Most of the contents presented were related to my work and interest. I enjoyed all the presentations and really appreciate the presentations by Dr. Deepika Kohli which focused on the necessity of digital skills for educators in the 21^st century. According to dr. Nellie’s discussion, each learner is different. So, teachers need to cater to each one to get to them one by one, they need to give individulaized attention to each learner which comes from the heart, passion, care and feeling their learners. Although it takes time, they are what make your classes special. I also learned more about the basic Virtual World skills, as dr. Doris Molero showed step by step process for how to create avatar from the beginning and Beth O'Connell showed how to get dressed to make our avatar look like we want it to look. I felt happy that I could join https://communityvirtuallibrary.org/ too. I believe it would be great that educators can train, learn together and share their experience and how to be successful and to tackle obstacles across virtual platforms. To resolve the challenges, it is important to share some ideas and tips which we have learnt about with other educators. In the future, I would like to join more groups and communities in the VW and make the best possible use of the VW. 

I think the article is great as it addresses the issues around remote learning. It focused on the ethical considerations that schools and teachers have had to work through during the Covid Pandemic. The article had a lot of suggestions on the challenges of remote learning but also the successful strategies that II would summarize them here:

The first consideration that was discussed involved the issues surrounding teacher and student comfort and privacy. Many teachers and students working from home had challenges of distractions and feelings of uncomfortableness, especially with web cameras, while many teachers like seeing students on to make sure they are present and engaged, so it can cause discomfort with regards to backgrounds and distractions. Some suggestions were made for alleviating these issues: rules to make cameras use optional; attendance and engagement can be measured through text chat and voice; using tools like Padlet and Mentimeter to engage students live time; asking students to use a background image to mask their real life surroundings. Another consideration was the notion of assessment over remote learning. The difficulties for preventing cheating fell under this umbrella. The suggestions included: avoiding summative Assessment, Grades, scores etc. and practicing Formative Assessment (non-graded, feedback oriented).

The third ethical consideration involved the topic of equity. Since many students were remote, some students didn’t have the same internet, hardware, or computers which would affect learning and communication from teacher to student. Some potential solutions were to use asynchronous options for lessons and instruction. Zoom lessons need to be live time but videos lessons recorded earlier and shared to students as they can get access is one possibility to alleviate differences in bandwidth between students.

I watched the recording on YouTube, I did not connect with the speakers and I had no question but I got much more interested to learn and know more about the role and functions of libraries in supporting my students, and how to make them interested in VW libraries. Unfortunately, when I was a child, my school had no library but later I have always loved going to my university library where I felt peaceful and safe having access to a variety of books that I could find many interesting books there and read on my own. The librarians were as my friends or as a consultant that I could freely ask any questions and discuss about everything. It was very enjoyable for a shy student like me to have such an opportunity to interact with them and could consult with someone about the information that I was interested to know more about.

I think librarians can influence children’s lives and it will be great that children can have access to libraries early because they need to learn in an emotionally supportive and safe environment.  As Children want to explore and learn for school, play games, be entertained, interact with others, and want to engage with content and with each other, VW libraries can be wonderful places for them.

In future, I hope I can attend ongoing programs such as workshops, events, book discussions and exhibits in SL where provides many useful and good materials.
