The process of foot binding began at around the ages 4 to 9. First, the foot was drenched in herbs and animal blood which softened the bones and skin. Next, to break all the toe bones, the toes were bent underneath the foot. Eventually the arch of the foot was broken as well. Lastly cotton bandages kept the broken bones in place, which had to be unwound and rewound every other day for cleaning (commonlit.org).

"In 1883, the first Anti-Foot Binding Society formed. Chapters popped up all over the country, and the organization soon boasted nearly 300,000 member" (commonlit.org). With the amount of people against this practice it would get noticed easily which would lead to it getting outlawed. Also people in Anti-Foot Binding Societies state that by getting rid of the practice of foot binding it would increase the quality of health and labor.
