What do you think a humanities classroom is?

I think a humanities classroom is a space that echoes its namesake by grounding pedagogical practices in learner-centered, inquiry-based collaborative learning. A humanities classroom respects the diverse backgrounds, interests and abilities of learners and utilizes their knowledges as the foundations for questioning, researching, inquiring and reflection. The rights and responsibilities of students in a Humanities classroom are established through collaboration and consultation and agreed upon by each class member. The teachers role as a co-researcher and co-collaborator is intuitive of students needs and abilities and helps to facilitate a cohesive learning environment that respects and values the opinions, beliefs and backgrounds of all children.

A humanities classroom promotes an examination of the complex processes that have shaped the modern world and aims to investigate responses to different challenges, including people's interconnections with the world around them.
