The Course Coordinator Karima Mohammed and E-tutor Gladys Leu were very welcoming and ensured that every student was well informed and able to adjust to this class.  This was done by having a different task on each day of orientation week, which assisted with upcoming assignments. I was able to find out my learning style by taking the VARK quiz. I learned that i have a multimodal learning style.  I learned the definition of research to be "a process of systematic inquiry that is deigned to collect, analyse, interpret and use data." With learning that definition i also learned that business research is quite similar. It is defined as "the objective and systematic inquiry into a specific business problem in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions." There are quite a bit of business issues that can be researched such as buying habits, consumer attitudes, employee attitudes, staff retention, product recall, and market testing just to name a few.
I learned that there are three types of business research. One is exploratory which is research that is done initially to gather background information on a specific project. The second is descriptive is used to answer questions such as Who, what,, when, where, and how and usually depends on present data. Lastly casual research is the type that explains cause and effect between business variables.
In this unit you can also see that there is something called research design which techniques used to collect business data. There are three major classifications exploratory, descriptive and casual.

It explained that the research process is a systematic approach to acquire , analyze, interpret, and disseminate data and information to persons in place to make decisions. The data that is obtained is then used by various business persons in place to make decisions. This process is a six stage process made up of 1)finding the problem, 2) research design- stating the methods and procedures used for collecting and analyzing data, 3) measurement approach, 4) collecting data, 5) analyzing data, 6) drawing conclusions. This week unit 3 is entitled communication in research process. In this unit I was able to learn now communication is connected to all areas in business. I learnt the purpose of a research proposal and its components. It also gave a great outline of how to write a research proposal and also a research report. All aspects of this unit was very helpful for upcoming assignments. This unit went in depth with qualitative, quantitative and mixed method approaches which was briefly discussed in unit 1. The four research methods used under qualitative method are Phenomenology, Ethnography, grounded theory,  and also case study. It was also outlined that qualitative and quantitative research methods fall on the extreme ends of the research continuum, whilst mixed method research falls in the middle. Just like Qualitative, quantitative has three major methods inn business research. They are experimental, Quasi-experimental and also non-experimental. This unit also spoke about conceptualization, which  is the process of developing and clarifying a concept. It was also outlined what variables and measurements are in the research process. Communication medium influences and impacts the way a questionnaire is built. I also learned that questionnaires can either be interviewer administered. Where I 
would record the responses of the person being interviewed onto the questionnaire or self administered where the person being interviewed can write their answers on the questionnaire sheet themselves. Some modes of interviewer administered questions are telephone interview and personal interviews which would be face to face. Some modes of self administered questionnaires are via mail and internet delivery. I also learned how to formulate and organize my questions for a questionnaire. There are two error that can occur within questionnaire design which include interviewer error or respondent error. For me the past couple weeks was crazy, and this week was no different, but I managed to pull through. I completed my research proposal which was kind of difficult but thanks to my tutor Ms. Leu. I think I was able to get through it with her guidelines. 
My topic I covered was employee retention in the restaurant industry. The reason for that was because the hotel that I work has a restaurant and they are running through employees very quickly. So I used that as my motivation. 
This upcoming week I have a group assignment to complete and I have a very intelligent and very interactive group member with bright ideas. SO I know we will do great.

I will put forth a lot of effort to succeed in this course.

My weeks have been crazy, our hotel is 100% booked and some of my work, work spills over into the evening when its time to focus on school assignments. I have been behind with my reflections but I am focused on making sure I complete.
For this week both myself and my group member worked closely together to complete our presentation. We both did necessary research and put together information to present.   I did the vocals on our presentation which took me about 15 tries to make sure that pronunciation was good because even though I think I don't have an accent a lot of persons say I do so I tried my best to be a s clear as possible.  
The Ravens presented on the Antecedent and outcomes of employee benefits satisfaction. This paper really gave good insight on retaining good employees and what can be done to keep staff satisfied to progress the company and employee satisfaction.
