The internet is a tool that's free to pretty much everyone, and with a great tool comes with a great responsibility. I personally think fake news and misconception being spread around are some of the prime reasons of the deterioration of quality of useful information on the net. When someone with no idea of the content stumbles upon fake news, this would lead them to commit actions that they wouldn't normally do but it would make them do it nonetheless if that source of fake news says it would have a positive outcome. Misinformation fuels chaos. Imagine if you saw an article from a seemingly noteworthy site that reveals the exam date of the school you are applying to. Many other peeps also saw this site and believed it. Once that seemingly correct exam date arrived, all of those poor examinees were left out of the gates wondering what is happening. Only to realize that on the side of the school gates, there was an official calendar copy of the important dates to keep note of. And there it was, the exam period was not that day but on the day the same article that misinformed them came out. Disastrous, what a total shame to both the school and the examinees. Now think, what if these students only applied to that school? Where do they go? It depends really but for sure some of them aren't going someplace bright which could have a pretty considerable impact on peace. I mentioned something similar to this in one of my previous responses to these padlets. Popular social media algorithms focus on increasing engagement as much as possible, regardless of the cost. Hence, it is almost always the extremists of a belief that get the platform in order to spark outrage amongst people. The internet truly has taken "freedom of speech" out of its true context. One of my gripes with today's generation is that our tendency to accept and progress for others has been so widely open that it made its way to those who don't deserve these positive showers of love from the world. I think that this could have a negative effect on peace because quality and availability of information is important in peacebuilding. It is necessary for peacebuilders to have access to quality sources so that they may do more research on the problem and its roots. Although I do acknowledge the fact that it's good to have more people with access to the internet and information flow, I also think that the internet wouldn't have a practical purpose if the quality of available information it gives greatly decreases. But on the bright side, if more people have access to the internet, then they have access to many different types of communication, so I think we should also acknowledge how much of an improvement this is and how much potential it gives.

Since we are on our phones always, if the access of internet increased but the information flow decreased, the process of information might not be informative because the spread of fake and false news grows. People spreading false news are not aware of the consequences they have put others through, that is why we cannot let the information flow deteriorate.

In my opinion, I feel like the quality of available information has deteriorated because of the people's common interest; entertainment. Nowadays we focus more on social media and the drama that revolves around it, no longer paying attention to the issues of our world. This could have a great toll on peace, for the youth today are being influenced by trends that do not contribute whatsoever to the development of our society.

It could be that eventually the concept of peace or violence will become "cheap". As either one gets normalized due to the constant repetition of exposure it could be that what is shown becomes the normal expectation of some young people who do not seek to know further than what is shown at the surface and thus value it less.
