"But Finny pressed his advantage. Not because he wanted to be forgiven for missing the meal -- that didn't interest him at all, he might have rather enjoyed the punishment if it was done in some novel and unknown way. He pressed his advantage because he saw that Mr. Prud'homme was pleased, won over in spite of himself" (22).

Here we see Gene appreciating Finny's strength of Social Intelligence, specifically in being aware of the motives and feelings of others and knowing what makes other people tick. Despite being the student, Finny is clearly able to influence Mr. Prud'homme's emotions, and takes advantage of that skill to manipulate the conversation to his own advantage.

"Everything he said was true and sincere; Finny always said what he happened to be thinking, and if this stunned people then he was surprised".
I believe that that this really shows us the true HONESTY he has. Finny doesn't bother lying about him being late to dinner he tells the truth. Though this does also show us his SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE, since he knew that if he kept talking he could get out of being in trouble.

"Mr. Patch-Withers, came up to him after history class and asked about it, I watched his drawn pink face become pinker with amusement as Finny politely explained the meaning of the shirt".
This shows us the immense HUMOR Finny had. He could make any ones day better and happier with his crazy stories and the way he told them.

“Rigid, I began climbing the rungs, slightly reassured by having Finny right behind me.” A few sentences later, “I turned back toward the river, moved a few more steps along the limb, sprang far out and fell into the deep water.” I think this situation shows that Gene has a lot of perseverance. Despite being scared and nervous to jump off, which we can tell by the word “rigid”, she persevered and faced her fear.

"Phineas was going to get away with even this. HIs eyes gave their wider, magical gleam and his voice continued on a more compelling level, 'Although I have to admit I didn't think of that when I put it on this morning.' " (Knowles, 28). This quote shows an example of Finny's Social Intelligence. This is because he is able to be charming and smooth enough to get away with his odd clothing, and read the social surroundings to sleekly explain why he did this.

"Bombs in Central Europe were completely unreal to us here, not because we couldn't imagine it--a thousand newspaper photographs and newsreels had given us a pretty accurate idea of such a sight--but because our place here was way too fair for us to accept something like that"...."The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small band, and I'm glad we took advantage of it" (Knowles, 30). I believe that this shows Gratitude. This is because he said that he appreciated that he was in a safe place where the idea of bombs were far from real, even as so many other lived this reality at this time.

Gene seems to be curios and prudent. He takes note of the things around him because he is constantly wondering what it is and what it means. For example, on pages (27-28), he was curios to see if Finny would receive a conscience for a wrong action of his. An example of his prudence, which I think he has more of anyway, is when Finny asks him to jump off the tree into the river on page (31). He examines the situation and reviews the possible outcome. He acknowledges the risks, calling it a "Super suicide Society of the Summer Session," but chooses to look towards the optimist and fun aspects of the action.

Finny seems to be socially intelligent. As shown on page (22), he changes his attitude, tone, and amount of friendliness while explaining to his teacher, Mr. Prud'homme, why he and Gene missed dinner the night before. While talking, Mr. Prud'homme was described as rapidly losing his grip on sternness. This shows how he has the ability to internally read the situation and motives of the others around him.
