African Americans made a huge role in politics, the main one was Hiram Revels. Hiram Revels the first colored senator and other representatives are in the photo. They are significant because they were the first colored to be in office. The fifteenth amendment helped them get into office and achieve their goals. It helped them because the fifteenth amendment says you can not deny someones right to vote, so African Americans could now vote too.

I'm Jon and it's 1866 and it's been a hot day. I'm getting ready to go to bed since the sun is going down. I've been in the field all day planting crops. I'm so thankful for sharecropping, if I didn't have sharecropping I wouldn't be able to survive. Life has changed after the Civil War because now I can do whatever I want, I don't get beaten on a daily basis, and I am free!

Reconstruction was a success because all the good it did. Reconstruction made us have the fourteenth and fifteenth amendment. It also helped rebuild the united states. Not only did it help rebuild all the buildings, but it also helped us rebuild our politics. So yes, reconstruction was a success.
