And that trade continues until the 18th century. During that time the Macartney Mission talked about getting better conditions with the trade with the Chinese but the Chinese declined. The Europeans wanted to bring more trading products over to the Chinese besides silver, but the Chinese declined and that they aren't interested in them. Because of that the Europeans started trading 'opium' with them, but the Chinese didn't like that and so they confiscates threw it to the sea and the Europeans demanded compensation and so the European trading ships started attacking Canton. The Chinese tried to counter attack but failed and the Chinese ended up signing the Nanjing treaty.

The reason why it was so easy to conquer them, is because of Industrial Revolution/Industrialization Europe developed a lot of technology over the past years and have beaten the people of Africa. Before they have beaten Africa, they have suffered many casualties, and they were infected with diseases: Malaria, Yellow Fever, Smallpox, sleeping sickness. etc. all around Africa and in result they died because of it and the Africans are skilled with Spears, Swords and Bows. And so for a short time they beat Europe.
