This stage involves the crisis of control and choice-making. Potty training is a great example of physical control during this stage. At this stage, my parents encouraged me for my successes and did not make me feel guilty about any failures. My choices on food, toys, and others were respected, giving my the positive trait of autonomy.

This stage involves the crisis of having control in certain environments, such as during play and social interactions. My parent's divorce took any sense of control away from me, as a lot of the decisions were not ones I could weigh in on. This made me feel as if I was not in control of my life, and I developed the negative trait of guilt.
