When I was tutoring students at the 14th street community center I couldn't expect every student to be at the same level or learn the same way. I had a student who was in first grade who was having trouble with her reading. I had to help her a little with her words and help sounding them out. I had another student a couple weeks later that was really struggling with her reading and I had to help her more than the other girl. I couldn't just help her as much as the other student because she was at a different level and needed a different amount of help.

At the 14th street community center they had a big rule about respect. It did not matter what race, ethnicity, or gender you were you had to respect the people in charge and other people there as well. Also at the Community Learning Center they expect the kids to treat the teachers and the TA's with respect as well as the other students. The teachers and the TA's expect the students to listen to their directions and not be rude or disrespectful to them or whoever is in charge. They also must act kindly to other students and not be disrespectful to them.

The people at the 14th street community center don't expect the worse from the kids that come there. They are positive and encourage them to be better and to help them with whatever they need help with so they can achieve what they want to. They don't look down on them because of where they come from or what their life is like, they only have positive expectations.

When I went to the Native American Festival they were educating young elementary students about their culture and teaching them information they probably won't learn in the classroom. They were digging in deep to the culture and not just scratching at the surface. They also were educating me on things I never knew before and they were providing me with information I can teach my students in the future.
