Mrs. Sullivan please don't count this as late I did my reading guide at home and was going to work on this in class but I got sick and was sleeping the whole day.

Within the coastal scrub is a multitude of diversity, ranging from many plants such as Monkey Flowers, Bunch Grass, and Coyote Bush, as well as a wide assortment of animals ranging from sparrows, wrens, salmon, owls, and caterpillars.

There are many predator/prey relationships in the ecosystem, ranging from the many different types of birds eating insects, to butterflies and caterpillars feeding on plantain. Commensalism is another relationship that exists in this ecosystem, between many of the birds flying on and perching on scrub on the coast.

Just like any other ecosystem, the California Coast has a few organisms that are crucial to the survival of the ecosystem. Many of the plants, such as the Coyote Bush, California Bay Laurel host not only many of the birds that live on the coast, but also many of the bugs that the birds eat. If they were to go away, the ecosystem would be changed drastically.

Around the year 1850, a strange new tree hailing from Australia started being planted across the state of California. The tree went by the name of the Eucalyptus Tree. The tree is known to send out long roots into the soil, firmly entrenching themselves in the ecosystem. However, this causes some problems that will be touched on shortly.

How Does the Species Affect the Ecosystem

The introduction of the Eucalyptus tree brought about many problems to the California coast. The strong roots that dug into the soil damaged many drains and stream sides, they are very fragile, leading to much litter from bark and leaves, and can fall over easily, leading to much soil being torn from the ground, as well as producing many herbicides to prevent other plants from competing with them. They completely ruin the balance of the ecosystem, and destroy the most vital organism: the plants. In doing so, many of the animals that used those plants as a home or a source of food lose out, and end up having their population decreased dramatically.

The introduction of the Eucalyptus Tree may have a massive impact on the ecosystem, but the food web overall does not really see any change. The feeding relationships still stay the same for the most part, there is just far fewer of those organisms now because of the shortage of plants.
