Quick-Write Alma

Alma had been stuck in this doll for a long time. She wasn't quite sure for how long. Nobody was. There was a fine film of dust over everything in their shop. Nobody knew why but everyday a new doll would take the place of the last, and another child would end up touching the doll and get sucked into the doll. Time seemed indefinite there. They could've been there for a few hours or for centuries. One day a doll came back up the weird stand in the middle of the room. This was just another doll. Nothing special. When the girl that came in for the doll her eyes instantly filled with fear she looked straight at Alma and a few other dolls. She tried to run out but the door was locked. She started banging the door when and Alma recognized her. This had been her friend at school. This girl was a little older than Alma remembered her being so she realized she must've been here for several years. Once the girl realized she couldn't escape, she started to come down. Clearly nothing was going to happen to her because her doll hadn't moved again. After a few minutes she cautiously walked over to Alma and picked her up. She touched her face and Alma blinked. The girl screamed and threw Alma across the room. Her doll broke and Alma came out of her doll, but the was, she was a few years older than she had been when she went into the doll. After a brief and shocking realization, both girls started simultaneously picking up the dolls and chucking them as hard as they could until they broke. Some were harder than others, and it seemed as if the longer that the child had been in the doll the harder it was to break the doll. One of the oldest dolls was about as hard as titanium, or so it seemed. Eventually as the children came out of the corpses of the dolls they, too, started helping chuck the dolls until they broke. Sometime later there were no dolls left to break. The children were crammed in the tiny store, there being several hundred of them. They all started searching for an exit. They soon realized there were only two ways out: the door, which didn't budge, or the pedestal which delivered the dolls every day. They figured they best wait until the pedestal reopened, but when it did it closed to fast for them to go down. However the next day when a little girl came to write their name and turned around to see the doll just sitting on the pedestal, along with hundreds of the other children. She quickly opened the door and all of the children filed through the doors. They all ran home and a few months later the shopped was close and everybody got on with their lives. It took some time, a longer time for some more than others, but eventually everybody's lives got back to normal.
