The receivers house is different because the house has all the walls lined with books for keeping memory, and it has furniture like the table with the curved legs, unlike the normal dwellings. This is so because the job of the receiver of memory is important and the community wants it to be relaxing yet proper to do that kind of work in peace.

This means that Jonas thinks that there was only one community and nothing before that perfection and sameness came into play. I think that this isn't a good way to live because Jonas doesn't have an open mind, which he should have considering he is the receiver of memory and he should know memories past.

This leads me to believe that in the normal parts of the community, privacy is limited to no privacy at all and that the people in the normal houses aren't able to do these things to keep a quiet or private environment.
