Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th of July in 1918. (1) He grew up with two sisters in his mother's kraal in the village of Qunu and spent his time tending to cattle.

Nelson spent alot of his time learning with his grandfather and his ancient tribal beliefs, while his mother and father were strongly christian, he followed that faith but not as closely as he followed his grandfather. Though it is Nelson Mandela's christian faith that steered him away from communism in the 1940's.

Nelson was then the first black head of state in South Africa. (3) He served 27 years in prison for the large amounts of activism he participated in. Though he continued to fight against racism and wrote/ preached while he was in prison. Nelson has also written plenty of books and given multitudes of speeches on his opinions and his beliefs. Nelson was recognised by his book 'Long walk to freedom', his autobiography, which was published in 1994.

Nelson also brought multiple types of education to rural schools; “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world," Mandela famously said. Mandela founded the Nelson Mandela Institute for Rural Development and Education to train and send high-quality teachers to rural areas and equip schools with modern facilities.

Nelson Mandela's life story and change story had widely opened my eyes to the change he caused.

Nelson Mandela is nationally recognised for his severe acts he went through to get the change he achieved. This inspires me to follow through with my ideas for change and how he continued to fight for his causes while in prison will forever push me to persist with what I believe in.

Nelson Mandela's change story has not severely impacted my world view, though I always figured a place like Africa would have always have had the best equal rights for people of colour, I am not shocked white people took over there too.

Reading and learning about Nelson Mandela's story has opened my eyes to how the world can change with smaller and bigger acts of activism, and that even if you go prison, you can still make a difference in the outside world.

Nelson went to prison, although only because of his extremist ways to protest, him and Ghandi blew up buildings and was expelled from university in 1940.

Nelson was in an activist group called the ANC (African National Congress) where he and Ghandi banded together to fight against racial norms. This was later banned in his trial against legitimate response to the apartheid state’s use of violence against its own citizens.

Nelson Mandela had pleaded guilty to 156 acts of public violence including mobilising terrorist bombing campaigns, which planted bombs in public places, including the Johannesburg railway station. Nelson as president was friendly with dictators and bought multitudes of military weapons.
