We had months to teach students how to log in, how to learn different platforms, and our expectations. A challenge I see in the fall is the ability to teach these resources in a way that is effective but not does overwhelm students and families. One thing I did was really cut down the platforms I used between March and April. I was trying to do too much and not only was it hard for me to keep up with, but families as well. I want to choose websites that can do as much as possible for students to learn well and stick with that.

Students decide which activity they are most comfortable completing first, and once they master it, they can move on to more challenging activities. Every student learns differently and I could see some students trying to take advantage of the choices that they can make. Teachers could use some professional development on choice boards and how as educators we can have the students take charge of their own learning at a young age. Teachers could use support from other educators that have experience in this area and we could learn from one another.

The biggest challenge I see is time, but I think being able to create these resources over time will help. It will take time to think through all that should be included in a digital choice board and how to make it easily navigated by students.

It also gives them the option to share their poetry projects on this website with people from around the world. This is not only because I am teaching using the New Tech model, but because I feel that problem-based learning does a lot better job of teaching students what I want them to know. Oftentimes, especially at the high school level, when students ask me when they will use that math in their lives the answer usually is they won’t unless they are going into specific career fields, HOWEVER, what I really need them to learn is the deep thinking skills, critical thinking skills, and problem solving skills and I feel like with problem based learning student’s get more of this. It also teaches them to be more independent learners and helps with differentiation of instruction so I can make sure I am meeting each student’s needs better.

I have used it some in the past, but with the new iLIT program, I did not use it much this year.  I thought I would just check it out quickly, but I found so many NEW features including the online rubric.  It will provide a platform for my students to complete speaking activities and for them to receive feedback.  Going "live" and being recorded is not quite an authentic experience, but it does provide a snapshot of their speaking abilities.  I think an important part of implementing Flipgrid this year will be to get students interacting with each other and posssibly interacting with other schools!

I also love the Google Forms Self-Graded Quizzes! I think students would benefit from having immediate results to allow them to track their own progress and mastery.
