I think Cole brings this up because at some point in his career, HE himself did it for fame but realized that that was the wrong path to take as an artist.  He presents his opinion that making songs shouldn't be made for fame and money because it's blinding the artist. The contrast of the “white shirt” with the red of her “bloody nose”  illustrates the internal change Billie Eilish undergoes. The imagery of a white shirt, pure and untainted, now corrupted by blood, symbolizing pain as a metaphor for the loss of innocence. 

In the second part, she addresses the audience and admits that this song is dark. If her mother “reads all the lyrics” she “won’t sing this song” like she usually does when Billie releases music. Instead, she’ll “pity the men” in Billie’s life who she imposes her desires on. It is laced with a twinge of regret and sadness. She is confessing that this unruly behavior is putting distance between herself (as the character she is playing, not Billie in real life) and her mother.

Ultimately, the song shows that those who lose their innocence/ change their values, prioritize relationships and distance themselves from their family due to vulgarity.

The lyrics specifically mentions the slavery in the past and it shows that people have been suffered in the past. Slavery and segregation was a huge part in the history and the song really defines each aspect of it.

Although this genre falls under both hip hop and musical theatre, I think it is interesting to note that although Hamilton was born on an island in the Caribbean, he identifies with America culture, as he says "my country" in the song.  By saying this he emphasizes that this is a place whose spirit he greatly identifies with. In America, he has a chance to succeed with the idea of the American Dream, and he isn’t going to waste that chance. Just as the country is young and relatively unformed, Hamilton feels that he is on the brink of success, and compares himself favorably to the potential that America has to become a land of opportunity. This correlates with ethics because it correlates to Kant's laws of universalizability. If you are saying that your country is "young, scrappy, and hungry," other countries would not want to be called that. This statement almost has a negative connotation to it.

My tax money is getting taken to give to someone so they can provide for their family and so on. So this made me think, a question I think would start discussion is, if there are several means to make money, why are some of them considered illegal and others not? Most hip hop songs include messages about gang violence, crime, misogyny, politics and many other topics. The article makes a point that the court system uses the rappers art as a reason to put them behind bars and how this is unethical. Just because someone writes a song rapping about drug abuse or gang violence doesn't mean that they are guilty of it. Even though it is a musical it still crosses over into the hip hop genre with some of its music. In this song the characters are saying what they would do if they ever one the lottery. They state there dreams, often using most of the money for themselves, but then the character Sonny starts rapping what he would do. He doesn't use any of the money for himself, rather to help his community of Washington Heights. He says he will fix housing, give the community access to computers and organize protests about the raise in rent prices. This relates to what the hip hop genre started as. It was used to sign about current issues and give a voice to those who don't have one, rather than about parties, drinking and drugs. Others in the song say they will use the money to move away, but he chooses to use it to help the community he already lives in. This is very interesting in concerns to ethics, for it's very easy to want the money for yourself. However, anyone who says they aren't using even a little of it for themselves is probably lying. Most people when winning the lotto will improve they're own lives, but then out ethics kick in and our want to help those around us in our community, the social contract theory. In it, Tupac addresses to his audience that despite all his successes, he and the rest of the African Amreican community still live hard lives. The best part about the line is that it doesn't answer the question it asks. For Kendrick's immediate purposes, he's the flower and the city is the dark room. He's trying to emphasize on the question, "can we trust him?".
